Shangumukham beach – Trivandrum
Shangumukham beach is located in the western side of thiruvananthapuram and very near to the Intrenational airport. This place is fit for who seeks relaxation in this busy life.one of the main attractions in this beach is the majestical evening scenario.
During the sun set time the the horizon become the shaded red color which make an awesome scene and please don’t forget to take your camera to capture this picturesque views of the sunset, In addition to this the great artistic performance or local dances are held here which enhances the beauty of the eve. The tides are considerably low which make comfortable to children to play here under the supervision.
Even though the beach is clean this is not suitable for swimming and bathing.we can watch the action of local fishermen on the boat or wooden canoes from the shore.Other attractions are statue of Jalakanyaka(mermaid),Jawahalal Nehru Park, Star fish restaurant, Indoor recreation club.
It is very pleasant to view the huge statue of sunbathing samudrakanyaka or jalakanyaka at Shangumukham Beach which is about 23mtr(75′) long.It is one of the greatest works done by the award winning sculpture Kanayi Kunjiraman.The another attraction, the Jawaharlal Nehru park for kids and is differ from others by its activity, that is this park helps the children to understand the traffic rules through different gaming section.Here also provide cycling facility to children. A skating coaching session is held at the Indoor recreation club near to beach, and also have regular coaching session for Badminton and Table Tennis.Horse riding facility is also provided here.
There is an old stone porch beside the shore known as “Arattu mandapdam”.Shangumukham beach has a good position in hindu religious faith, it is considered as the place for holy bath of Sree Anantha Padmanabhan the deity of Sree Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple which is about 8 km from the beach.
There is two festival celebrated in every year at the temple, and a procession from the temple to the beach led by the king (Maharaja) of the travancore with royal sword in his hand followed by members of the royal family, temple authoriyies,guards,plice and officers. Thousands of Hindus perform ‘Vavubali’ on Karkidaka vavu day.
Varieties of delicious sea foods are available in the near by restaurants,an attractive star fish shaped restaurant is near to the beach which is also a visual treat and also have the parking facility,
on walk through the beach you can see many kiosk and there get the local kerala style tasty foods.To enjoy the quality food items there is an Indian Coffee house across the beach side.
There is almost all time is good to visit here over the year but it is better to visit between november to may.
Since there is no timing here but better is prefer the day time especially evening. KSTRC Regular bus services are available from the city area to beach
