Veli tourist village is placed at Thiruvananthapuram,just 2 km nearer to Shangumukham Beach is a perfect place for enjoying with family. You can see so many concrete Sculptures and a well landscaped garden and it offers good privacy than other beaches,since it has many empty or peaceful places.
Here the Veli lake meets the Arabian sea and it gives a better boating experience,a sand bar separates the lake from the sea and which is cleared manually during the flood time for drainage.Birds are one of the main attractions here with a lot of species like herons, egrets , kites , cormorants and so many and the sea shell (sanghu)sculpture is very famous and the great work done by Kanayi Kunjiraman.
The major attractions of Veli tourist village are playing areas for your children, boat rides in the lake,horse rides,swimming pool,shopping stalls,the sculptures, garden etc.The childrens park is the right side of the entry and swings are provided here for children and couples and also have slides and adventure games.
Beside the park we can also see a pond and the sea shell sculpture,the pond contains many tortoises and can find many swans on the right side .
There is a grass sculpture of sleeping women by Kanayi Kunjiraman.
We can take a leisure walk through the walkway which connects Veli with Parvathi Puthanar canal,along this way a toddy shop is running.On the southern side of the veli beach there is 300 m pavement,which is newly constructed one and gives a beautiful view of the beach,but this place closes at 7:00 pm.The trees here are shelter to the birds and and gives shade to us. you can freely capture the beauty of Veli since no camera fees here.
The large garden located on the southern banks of lake is colored with lot of flowers and plants which makes a great scenic view and feels like a calmly atmoshere .A floating bridge about 60 mtr connects between these garden with the Veli beach.
Near to this bridge there is a two storied medium range floating restaurant,which runs by KTDC and from here you can watch the beauty of the lake.
If you want to drink or eat something there are so many cafeterias are located here which runs by the local people where you can taste the kerala style foods.
There also have a pigeon cage, where you can closely watch many varieties of pigeons.On the right side you can find many shopping stalls and also available the horse riding here.
Boating is the main attraction of Veli,you can hire the pedal boat,paddle boat,speed boat,safari boat as your like and the rate stars from 70 rupees. The boat services are operated by KTDC with daily timing of 10am to 5pm and no tickets are needed the children below 5 year.
You can buy the tickets through the two stage processing,In the first stage pay the amount and then gets a fee receipt and fill your address details on the form and in second stage submit the form for approval after the approval stand on the queue near the dock.The cost of ticket depends on the number of person and the type of boat.
There is an entry fee of 5 rupees per head with an age of above 14 years.
